ShelfScout (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

Account Information When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information (name and email) from those providers.

Location Data We collect your approximate location when you use the app to show nearby stores and products. Location is only accessed while the app is in use and is never shared with third parties.

Photos When you take a shelf photo, it is uploaded to our secure servers and analyzed by AI to identify products. Photos are stored and displayed to other users as part of store inventory data.

Usage Data We collect information about how you use the app, including products scanned, stores visited, and corrections made. This data improves the accuracy of our AI and the quality of store inventory information.

How We Use Your Information

• To provide and improve the ShelfScout service
• To show you nearby stores and product inventory
• To process shelf photos and identify products using AI
• To maintain your account and contribution history
• To improve our AI models using anonymized, aggregated data

AI and Third-Party Services

ShelfScout uses the following AI services to analyze shelf photos:

• Google Gemini — primary shelf photo analysis
• OpenAI GPT-4o — fallback shelf photo analysis

When you submit a shelf photo, the image is sent to these services for analysis. Please review Google’s and OpenAI’s privacy policies for information on how they handle image data.

We also use:

• Supabase — database and authentication
• Google Places API — store discovery
• Foursquare — store discovery

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We share data only with the third-party services listed above, which are necessary to operate the app.

Store inventory data (product names, store locations, shelf photos) is crowdsourced and visible to all ShelfScout users.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the email below.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Opt out of future communications

Children’s Privacy

ShelfScout is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
